David Kallas, a board member of ICFOA, brings a deeply integrated perspective to finance, strategy and leadership. A strategist by training and practice, David has spent over two decades guiding organisations through complex challenges across consulting, academia and executive leadership.

As Partner and co-founder of KC&D since 2005, he has led over a hundred consulting projects across corporate, public, and non-profit sectors. His academic roles at leading institutions such as Insper and Hospital Albert Einstein reflect a strong commitment to learning and teaching, supported by his master’s and PhD in strategy.

David’s long-standing involvement with Anefac, where he served as President from 2023 to 2024 and continues as a board member, highlights his enduring influence in Brazil’s finance and accounting community. His additional board roles at Assetz and Onvet speak to his broad understanding of organisational growth and governance.

At ICFOA, David represents Anefac and supports its mission to connect CFOs around the world, with a particular emphasis on fostering collaboration between the Global North and South.

What inspired you to pursue a career in finance or business leadership?

I have always been passionate about business, especially strategies for solving complex problems. My experience in consulting and education exposed me to various industries and companies.

Who has been your biggest influence or mentor, and what did you learn from them?

My biggest influence has been the consulting firm where I started my career. Additionally, since I began teaching at a young age, I owe much to my students, whose curiosity always motivated me to keep learning.

What’s one life lesson or philosophy you live by, whether in work or life?

My philosophy is to take good care of the people around me. Life is a network of relationships; what you give, you receive, doubling back.

What’s a book, quote, or concept that changed how you think?

A quote that changed my perspective is: “It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who survive, but those who best respond to change.” Although often attributed to Darwin, there’s no evidence he said it. Still, it’s one of my favourites, reminding me that adaptability is key in life.

Outside of finance, what are your hobbies or interests that people might not expect?

As a Brazilian, soccer is my favourite hobby, no surprises there.

Please briefly describe your current role and responsibilities in your organisation.

I have nearly 20 years of experience with Anefac. I served as president in 2023–2024 and am currently on the board.

What are some milestones or achievements in your career that you’re particularly proud of?

I am proud to have founded KC&D, which celebrated 20 years in 2025. Entrepreneurship and longevity are no easy feats.

What professional designation(s) or qualifications do you hold, and which one challenged you most?

I hold master’s and PhD degrees in strategy and have led over a hundred consulting projects across various sectors, including corporate, government, and non-profit.

If you could give one piece of advice to a young finance professional starting out today, what would it be?

Never stop studying and learning, surround yourself with inspiring people, and stay true to your values.

Why did you get involved with ICFOA?

As president of Anefac, I was invited by Angel García-Lascurain, a friend and partner from IMEX, to join ICFOA. I was very excited and took it to my board, which approved immediately.

What do you hope ICFOA will accomplish in the next five years?

I hope ICFOA becomes a global hub, expanding across regions and fostering knowledge exchange and networking among CFOs worldwide.

What role do you believe CFOs should play in solving global challenges (e.g. climate, inequality, digitalisation)?

I believe CFOs can play a crucial role in addressing global issues like climate change, inequality, and digital transformation, working alongside governments to protect our planet and support those in need.

How do you see ICFOA bridging the gap between Global North and Global South CFOs?

ICFOA should promote more content sharing, joint research, and experiences between North and South CFOs, enabling mutual learning and contribution.

What is one idea, project, or initiative you’d like to see ICFOA launch?

I would love to see ICFOA launch a Global CFO Certification.

Coffee or tea?

Each has its moment, but living in a major coffee-producing country, I have to go with Brazilian coffee.

Excel or PowerPoint?

I have a love-hate relationship with Excel, though I worry AI might make it obsolete soon.

Books or podcasts?

Both are great, but I can’t travel without my podcasts. Still, a good book is unbeatable.

Early bird or night owl?

I’m more of a night owl, though recently I’ve been waking up earlier.

If you weren’t in finance, what would you be doing?

If I weren’t in finance, I’d probably be a magician. Maybe one day I’ll revisit that childhood dream.
